The works in the gallery, Dog Town, are from my private collection. It includes a pastel in addition to the acrylics. I feel all are representative of the sense of whimsy in my art.
As artist Dorothy Hood said: painting realism is painting on the outside; painting abstractions is painting from the inside. These abstract paintings contain my marks and those motifs that are common to my personal style. The marks and motifs express my inner personality. I am painting from the inside.
All of these paintings are acrylic on paper. I scrape into the paint to reveal under layers. Other techniques I use include imbedding paper, glazing areas to unify shapes, and finding representational shapes by painting negatively and positively. It is the unique characteristics of acrylic paints and mediums that make these techniques possible.
The red paintings are a series of abstracts painted negatively (covering part of the underpainting with red) and positively (developing the composition with more red). I named the first painting "Permissibility" because I gave myself permission to make it red.
